Celebration!
Today, you, me, and the family pet are celebrating the anniversary of NYSCYRA.net. Fun fact: for the longest time I realized I'd been misspelling it as "Nyscrya" because I'd always pronounced it in my head as "Nisk-krai-ya" when it's actually "Nisk-kai-rah." #embarrasssinggg
Anyways, when I first started going down the indie-web-wabbit-hole, she was one of the first sites I stumbled across that really resonated with me. I saw Black Souls and instantly fixed my posture to locked in. I first I noticed Mayura and Saya on the index, and my immediate thought was, "this site is niché!" The more I clicked around, the more other shared interests kept showing up... and then I found out later she's CANADIAN TOO! YOU DON'T. UNDERSTAND HOW UNREAL THAT WAS.
Back in middle school, I felt like the only kid in my grade who was really into anime and art. I got shunned and picked on a little for it, though to be fair, DDLC probably came across as "abnormal-weird" instead of "abnormal-fun" to the average sixth grader. Sometimes I wonder if part of it was just that I had absolutely zero self-awareness, because I was out here reading Deadtube and Franken Fran at like 11 or 12 years old. *sweats* But hey... I came out fine, I think???
The written parts of Nys's blog and dream journal are so vulnerable sometimes. Before, you genuinely couldn't beat the shit outta me to get me to talk about anything going on at home. Throughout high school I honestly felt like I was the only girl whose parents wouldn't let her have friends. Even now I'm still not allowed to go places by myself. The only loophole I have is work, and on my days off I sometimes lie and tell my parents I still have a shift lollll. It feels weird. but there's no shame anymore now that I know I'm not the only girl dealing with this. Is that morbid to say? Who else is living the no-women's-rights Afghanistan lifestyle in their first-world country? hmu!!
Anywho, Nys mentioned she loves cheesecake, so in honor of the occasion we're chugging down a Kirkland New York Cheesecake and a piece of "Cheesecake, Japan" quite the deadly combo for my bathroom later...
